Abstract of the Talk
It is always easier to get where you’re going if you have a good map – or a good navigator - to help guide you.
While personal financial planning provides the foundation for personal financial success, business owners and entrepreneurs face unique challenges in building their financial plans. Moreover, faced with the day-to-day challenges of running a business, few business owners have the time or the inclination to properly plan for their personal financial future.
Today’s economic environment makes prudent personal financial planning all the more important. The public markets are volatile, full of risks and opportunities. The American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 (ATRA) has significantly changed the income and transfer-tax options at a business owner’s disposal ahead of a transaction. Now, more than ever, a business owner must prepare carefully for the potential sale of a business and deploy a thoughtful tax strategy. Planning for the sale of a business needs to start months or years ahead of a transaction.
David Greene is a financial advisor with Bernstein Global Wealth Management. He advises high-net-worth individuals and institutions regarding investment strategies and works closely with clients and their professional advisors on a wide range of investment matters, including tax and estate planning, concentrated stock positions, and the sale of privately held businesses. His background and his practice focuses on personal financial planning and investment management for entrepreneurs, business owners, and their families.
Prior to joining Bernstein, David was president of Inspire, a startup online media company focused on health issues and, before that, president of PostNewsweek Tech Media, a division of the Washington Post Company.
